Take Control
Monday, 01 October 2012 15:55

storm Channel 9 news recently reported (16/4/12) that each year 80,000 Australians will get the flu. 15,000 of these flu victims will end up in hospital with a further 2,000 deaths.

We have noticed in-store and in our clinics a much higher influx of clients and patients with colds, flu, gastro and viruses… and winter hasn’t even started yet!

The thing to remember though is that the flu is a virus that has been around for thousands of years and every year, at about this time, we are at higher risk of infection from viruses because of increased exposure to them. We have no control over this exposure but we do have control over our immune system and we can “prime” it so that it can beat off any nasties floating around.

Have you ever wondered why you come down with a virus and your friend never does?

It all has to do with how good your immunity is - your defence system.  And you can take steps to build this.  You can control what fuel you put into your body (food) how you deal with stress (exercise, relaxation and fun) and what you do to build up your immune system (supplementation).

Can you relate to the following…

storm“I’m not sure about you but this cold snap has me running for cover – I’m indoors tucked up and cosy by the fire by 6pm, I’m craving comfort food and snacking on empty, sugary nutrients that are filling my stomach but depleting my immunity. It’s almost like I’m in shutdown mode and to be honest it is a reaction that my body seems to initiate every year when that first cold snap hits. It’s my way of rebelling against Mother Nature - knowing in my head that I have to let go of the frivolity of carefree summer days and brace myself for the gentle rhythms of winter, but acting like a defiant child and eating carelessly and slipping into unhealthy lifestyle habits. Now I know there is nothing wrong with treats occasionally – but to be honest it has gotten a bit out of hand!

It’s also about now - after two weeks of careless indulgence -  that I feel absolutely terrible –my energy levels are low, my mood is lowered, my sleep is unrefreshed, I have a low level virus, my head is a fog and the kilos are creeping on. I’m lethargic and I’m making the cold weather the excuse for my stopping my exercise regime.
My body screams to me to get out of my “self-pity” mindset and take back some control.

And to tell you the truth, if I don’t listen to my body right now I know I’m a serious contender for illness this winter.”

If this scenario rings true for you as well it’s time to take back control. It’s time to build your immunity and give yourself the best chance of warding off any potential “winter-nastie”.

To help you do this our team at  Mammoth Health  have drawn upon their expert knowledge and the latest research to develop a ‘ Take-a-Way  4-Step Program Pack’ that will have you fighting fit, full of energy and looking fabulous this winter!
