Hi and here we are already in March, Christmas does not feel that long ago…. This weekend is definately adding a wonderful reminder to some of us of our cultural history, so all Scots listen up including my good self!! This weekend brings the 56th Annual highland Gathering to Geelong and everything that is Scottish and more will be happening this weekend at Deakin University. This year will bring the biggest event to date which will include pipe band competitions, heavy games, highland and Scottish dancing and highland martial arts. The gathering will also entertain the kids with ligh with caber tossing and haggis hurling. There will even be a Scottish breed’s dog show. On Saturday night there will be the Concert For The Clans which will kick off at 7.30 and promise great entertainment. So for all the scots in Geelong, go and have a revisit of your heritage and culture. Historically Osborne House are marking and celebrating the first Royal Australian Naval College which opened at the beautiful Osborne House back in 1913. The centenerary commences at 10.30am Saturday with a march from Vietnam House as well as music offered by RAN Band and Geelong Memorial Brass Band. There will also be an exhibition of artefacts and memorabilia both Saturday and Sunday 10am – 4pm. Markets Saturday are wide and varied and include the wonderful Golden Plains Market in Bannockburn from 9am-1pm a great market and worth the visit. Then why not indulge in lunch at their great local pub. For all the mums who love a shop and want a bargain, then head to the Baby and Kids Market on Saturday 9-1pm,which offers a wide cross section for both babies and kids. A great idea as the set up for a new bubs is so expensive and they grow so quickly as do kids, so why not head there for some great buys? Torquay Central Farmers Market a great weekly Saturday market full to the brim with loads on offer and quite renowned for some great individual interesting stores and delicious produce. Another good idea for a drive and a day in Torquay taking in all it has to offer. Have a great weekend discovering all on offer in this fantastic region of ours! |
